Text: Gen 1:1-5 (King James Version)

"Father, I am your servant, willing and desiring to be used to bless your people."

The Fields are white and the laborers are few!
C.H. Spurgeon said, "If God does not save a man by truth he certainly will not save them by lies, and if the old gospel is not competent to work a revival, then we will do without the revival;"

A well known minister passes away and finds himself waiting in line at the Pearly Gates. Right ahead of him was a taxi driver and  Saint Peter says to this guy, "Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven."  The minister now takes his turn before St Pete and he says to the minister, "Take this cotton robe and wooden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven."  "Wait just a minute," says the minister! "That man was just a taxi driver and he gets a silken robe and golden staff, how can this be?"  "Well says St. Peter up here, we give rewards based on how your work helps people to grow spiritually,"  "While you preached, people slept.  But while he drove, people prayed."

Genesis 1:1   In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Genesis 1:2   And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Genesis 1:3   And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Genesis 1:4   And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

Genesis 1:5   And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Let's pray. Father,  Open my eyes so I can see Your truth.

Open my ears so I can hear Your voice.
Open my mind so I can understand Your Word.
And open my heart so I may receive all that You want me to receive. AMEN

THEME: We are the salt the silent work of influence and the light the visible manifestation of God in people's lives.

Matthew 5:13   Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Matthew 5:14   Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Matthew 5:15   Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Matthew 5:16   Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

As Christians we are called to be the light of the world with reason. "Matt 5:14" There is a little chapel in Yorkshire England, where at the end of each pew there is a tall candlestick. Each family, when it comes to church brings its own candle, lights it, and sits under it mellow glow during the service. If a family is absent from church, its pew goes unlighted, and the light of the entire church is diminished. The candles shed their light and the darkness is pushed back. Each family feels that their light is necessary, and members encourage one another to be faithful in attendance, remembering always to bring their candles.

There is a long shadow across individuals, our community and our world today which is going to be dispelled only if we bring our lights from far and near and set them to shining together.  Only then will the darkness recede.

1 John 1:5   This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

1 John 1:6   If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

1 John 1:7   But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

There are two things that we value that seem so insignificant but are part of our survival. We either complain because to much of these two things or we want more of these.
One is hardly seen. Yet too little of it you can taste the difference and too much of it can ruin your food.
The other is visible it is need during the night or when it is dark. Yet too much of it in the morning well make you say, "Turn it off" yet too little of it can make you feel unsafe.
What is it? It is salt and light. One works as it comes into contact with the food and the other one as turned on.

It is Time to wake our own Spirits up. How do you wake up in the Morning.

1 Grab that cup of Java?

2 Open the curtains and let the Light in?

3 Or do you have to splash some water on the face ?

Jesus said you are the salt and the light.

A. Differences between salt and light witnessing

1. It is crucial to understand the differences between these two. Salt works and expands itself silently but you see it operating. Things are delicious without ever seeing the salt.

2. You don't have to give a Bible study to be salt, your influence, your peace, your meekness your mercy. It only takes one to get it going. God is saying just give me one salt and I will affect the lives of many just one. How many of you have gotten sick in the past two months? Why it all started with one.
3. On the other hand light has a different type of effect. Light is visible it is seen it works openly. This is when you openly share your faith with others, when you share about God.
4. People need to see the salt and light witness. They need to see how your acquaintance is a seasoning to your life. To begin to ask the questions why are you like this. Tell me about your life. But also they need the light witness they need to see Jesus in our lives; we need to share with them the true source of light. Remember we are just reflectors of the light. ("For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." (2 Cor. 4:6)

John 3:18   He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:19   And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

John 3:20   For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

John 3:21   But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

John 9:1   And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.

John 9:2   And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

John 9:3   Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

John 9:4   I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

John 9:5   As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

II. A CHRISTIAN'S TESTIMONY is to be the Light.

Who is the true source of light? "Then Jesus spoke to them again saying I am the light of the world." He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." (John 8:12) "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1)

There is a Storm of un-Precedented magnitude coming.

Jonah 1:4   But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

Jonah 1:5   Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

Jonah 1:6   So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

Romans 13:11   And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

1 Corinthians 15:34   Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

Ephesians 5:14   Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

3. People are living in fear because of what is happening. This is the opportunity to shine the light so people will not be afraid. "But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." (1 John 1:7) So we are called to have friendships and to witness to our friends.

D. You are the Light

Illustration: The story is told of a man whose job was to be on the railroad tracks and warn with his light the upcoming training of the bridge that had been damaged. That night as the train came the man showed his lamp but the train went right into the ditch. The man was taken to court because they wanted to know why the train did not pay attention to this man who was to warn the train of the danger ahead. The man was asked, "Where you on duty on the night that the train had the accident" the judge asked. The man replied, "Yes sir" the judge once again asked did you have your lamp with you? The man replied, "Yes sir," the judge asked the last question did you wave your lamp to the train? The man replied, "Yes sir" so the man was not held responsible. Later as the man went home he told his friend, "I am glad that the judge did not ask me if my lamp was on"

1. We are to dispel darkness. "Arise; shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be see upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. " (Isa. 60:1-3)
2. The whole issue with the light is to be able to light in the darkness. Jesus said, you are the light of the world. Every Christian is a light to help others find salvation. But you don't have light of your own anymore than the moon has light without the sun
3. or a light bulb has light without being connected to a power source.

Functions of Light
1. Expose darkness: Darkness is expelled as soon as you hit the lights. People are not aware of the darkness they live in if they don't see the light.

"The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great light." (Matthew 4:16) The question is does my life help people see more clearly?

2. Light serves a guide: Airport runways helps planes see their runway by the lights. When we try to drive in the dark or land in the dark without lights it is dangerous. We are guides to people who are in darkness.

3. Light is to be seen: There is no such thing as a secret Christian. We need to be a light at all times. Light shines not so much that people may see the light as that they may see other things because of the light. Our light shines not that people will be attracted to us but to the light Jesus Christ.

III. FILLING THE EARTH WITH GOD'S GLORY

CONCLUSIONS
1. The time has come for us to be the salt of the earth.
2. The time has come for us to be the light of the world. To shine with the glory of God his character. When people see in us the character of God then message will spread like wild fire.

You are the salt and the light of the world.

I. A CHRISTIANS INFLUENCE Vs.13 We are indeed influencing whether or not you want to recognize it. You are casting something on the lives of others.

Salt Witnessing

A. SALT

1. Matthew 5:13-16 In the Sermon on the Mount the Beatitudes are the elements of the Christian life. But this section deals with the Christians influence.

A Christian that is merciful, meek, or a peacemaker, or that of a pure in heart will have a tremendous influence in the lives of those who have not given their heart to God.
