Text: 2 Chron 5:13-14 20:15-20   (King James Version)

  "Father, I am your servant, willing and desiring to be used to bless your people."

                            The Fields are white and the laborers are few!
C.H. Spurgeon said, "If God does not save a man by truth he certainly will not save them by lies, and if the old gospel is not competent to work a revival, then we will do without the revival;"

The Church of this century is faced with more challenges than ever before in its history. We are faced with every brand and variety of religiosity imaginable. Humanism, Spiritualism, atheism and every hybrid mix of religious notion you can think of. The world is starving to death for a REAL spiritual experience. They are driven beyond the brink of sanity. Amos 8:11 speaks of a time when there will be a famine - not for bread and water, but for hearing the Word of the Lord. Our cities and neighborhoods are starving to death. Our families and friends are perishing from hunger. Not from the lack of natural food, but from a lack of the Word of God.

No matter what you are looking for you can find a religion or philosophy to fit your state of mind. We find this culture creating pressure on the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. We find people church shopping - looking for the right "fit" for their needs. But you can't shop for a church that's not for sale. Perhaps this may sound a little old fashioned - but in this hour more than ever we need to stand in the pulpits across America and the world and present Christ to the crowd. We need to preach him in our homes and on our jobs. We need to echo the words of the Apostle Paul - I am not ashamed of the Gospel … it is the Power of God

 When you become desperate - you are not looking for an inspirational speech. You don't need fluff, you need answers. You don't need a pat on the back and a hand shake - you need a Word from God. You need the prophet of God. We cannot afford to simply entertain the audience - we must preach the Word. We must declare the whole council of God. We cannot afford to take a lesser stance in our generation.

2 Chronicles 5:13   It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;

2 Chronicles 5:14   So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.

2 Chronicles 20:15   And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.

2 Chronicles 20:16   To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

2 Chronicles 20:17   Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

2 Chronicles 20:18   And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

2 Chronicles 20:19   And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

2 Chronicles 20:20   And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

Isaiah 61:1   The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

Isaiah 61:2   To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Isaiah 61:3   To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Let's pray. Father,

Open my eyes so I can see Your truth.

Open my ears so I can hear Your voice.
Open my mind so I can understand Your Word.
And open my heart so I may receive all that You want me to receive. AMEN

Psalms 150:1   Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

Psalms 150:2   Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

Psalms 150:3   Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.

Psalms 150:4   Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

Psalms 150:5   Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

Psalms 150:6   Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

So don't say: "I'm praising silently". You can't "praise" silently. You may be worshipful - you may be adoring - but "PRAISE" requires action or voice!

And what I want to tell you tonight is that there is power in praise. There is power in lifting your voice in a song or a shout or a prayer of praise. Something happens when we applaud and magnify God.

When was the last time you saw the glory of God in such an awesome way that people were simply UNABLE to proceed with the business of doing "church stuff"? The last time God took over the order of service?

I've been in those meetings, and I'm hungry for them, when all sense of time is lost, and God orchestrates His own meeting.

In this passage we read that the coming of the shekinah glory - GOD'S MANIFEST PRESENCE - is linked with His people praising Him.

Don't you know PSALM 22:3 - "God dwells in the praises of His people."

Our Praise secures God's manifest presence.

You need a victory in some area of your life?! Instead of focusing all the time on that situation, on that mountain, START TO PRAISE HIM! God inhabits praise!

Psalms 149:6   Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;

Psalms 149:7   To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;

Psalms 149:8   To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;

Psalms 149:9   To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.

Here we see the PRAISE, coupled with the declaration of God's Word, binds the enemy in chains.

Did you know that PRAISE is a very good way to resist the devil?! (The Bible says, "Resist the devil and he will flee from you!") The devil's most common methods of attack are to bring discouragement, negativity, hopelessness, despair into our lives - to paralyse us from within - to get our eyes off God. The best way to deal with him is to START PRAISING THE LORD. Get your eyes back on the greatness of God and declare His praises. Sing and shout of His love, and His faithfulness, and His goodness, and His mighty power. And you watch the enemy flee. His power of discouragement - HIS LIES - will be broken! Hallelujah!

There's people here tonight carrying a burden. Weighed down by a crushing load. You're living with a "spirit of heaviness". (I'm not talking about some demonic spirit now - that's not what this verse means. It's YOUR spirit that is heavy. It's a disposition of heaviness.)

Did you ever see that cartoon character (Pink Panther? everywhere he went there was a raincloud over him. You know WE can get into a defeated attitude that we feel like that.

The Bible tells us, tonight, "put on the garment of PRAISE for the spirit of heaviness". OR, in other words, "EXCHANGE THAT SPIRIT OF HEAVINESS FOR PRAISES!"

Before I came to the church I began to talk to the Lord in prayer. I was praying for three particular families in this church. While I was praying I began to realize that I was under a spirit of heaviness.

Let's talk about this spirit of heaviness. It includes:
 Inner hurts
 Broken hearted
 Suicidal tendencies
 Self pity
 Excessive mourning
 Sorrow or grief

The root of this spirit of heaviness can at times come from:
 A lack of praise
 Being unthankful

The spirit of heaviness will attempt to steal your JOY.
Without joy we have the tendency to move into self pity.

Psalm 69:20
Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

The devil wants you to feel sorry for yourself. He wants you to feel alone and depressed. But don't let him lead you down that pathway. For the Bible says:

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Listen to what else the bible says:
Isaiah 43:1-7
1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
3 For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.
5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;
6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;
7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
This is talking about a God that is concerned about you. He cares for you.
In 1983 the National Institute of Mental Health said 1 in 5 have significant symptoms of depression.
Depression affects Christians because they get so wrapped up with the process of living day to day that they begin to lose interest in and neglect God's word. They feel the weight of serving God because the joy is gone and they are left with the dull mechanics of Christian living.

Like a dark tunnel with no exit

King Saul was affected by depression. He called for David to play and sing the anointed Psalms.

Isaiah 59:19
So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

You can give in to depression or resist it.

Romans 6:16
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

Don't give in to the spirit of heaviness - but use the word of God like a sword.

 When the devil says your no good remind him of 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

 When the devil says your not saved just tell him I know I'm saved because I was there when it happened.

 When the devil says to worry, just remind him that God said don't worry about anything

 When the devil says be sick just tell him by his stripes I am healed

 When he says be afraid remind him God said my peace I give to you.

 When he says be defeated you say we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

We are all going to face adversity. Even Paul did.
2 Corinthians 1:1-11

It is time to Bind this spirit once and for all!

Lets all pray this tonight!
Satan, in the name of Jesus, I bind your spirit of heaviness. According to Matthew 18:8. I recognize that you have taken advantage of me. Now I resist you in Jesus name. James 4:7 says "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." Go in the name of Jesus and don't bother coming back again.

Loose - Holy Ghost, oil of joy, praise

Praise silences the devil

Praise is a garment of the spirit. Put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

We must literally cloth ourselves in praise. We must put it on.

Every morning we decide what to wear. In the same way we must decide to put on the garment of praise.

In the Hebrew the word used for garment was more than something draped around the shoulders but it literally teaches us to wrap or cover ourselves in praise. The garment of praise is to leave no openings or holes which hostile spirits can penetrate.

Praise prepares us for miracles

Jonah 2:9-10
9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
10 And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

Something in Jonah's prayer got the attention of God - praise

Paul and Silas

Acts 16:25
25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

Put on the garments of Praise

Hebrew word - tehillah - to sing praise

It is used in Psalm 22:3 where it says God inhabits the praise of his people. God manifest himself in the midst of exuberant singing.

2 Chron. 20:22 - God sent ambushments

Psalm 34:1 I will bless the Lord at all times his PRAISE shall …

Isaiah 60:18
…but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

God is surrounded in a city, by a wall called salvation. The way to get into that city is through the gate of praise.

We don't gain access to his presence by needs and petitions but by praise.

Aint no rock going to cry out in my place!

Luke 19:40   And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
