Text: Rev 22; 11  (King James Version)

"Father, I am your servant, willing and desiring to be used to bless your people."

(Rev 22:11 KJV) He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

(Mat 24:36 KJV) But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only but as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

I. Introduction

The Coming of the Lord for you- whether by the grave or by the rapture- will probably find you like you are right now.   If you have waited, put off and procrastenated up to this point chances are you will be found by him in the same manner. We must daily ask ourselves the question, would this be the way that I want the Lord to find me when he comes? Would He be pleased with what I did- or did not do- today? This week? Would he be happy with what He found in my heart?

Would I feel confident that He would say those precious words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant..."

I have often thought about the September 11th incident, and how tragic it was for those victims to proceed into their day, not knowing that this would be there last day on Earth before they met God. I am sure men and women, young and old followed the routine that they followed every day. As they fixed breakfast, drank their morning coffee, sat in traffic jams or rode subways, they did not know that this would be their last ride- their last phone call- their last kiss- their last time to see a loved one- the last time in an elevator. In just a little while they would be leaving this world forever.
We need to ask ourselves a few questions:

'1st do we truly understand The Importance of a Diligent Spirit'
Psalms 119:4
'Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently'

I. The word diligent is a biblical word that is used to express the need to show great care and conscientiousness in one's work or duties in spiritual matters.

John 9:4   I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

To be CONSCIENTIOUS is desiring to do what is right.even if it is not popular
-Or- to do one's work or duty well and thoroughly.

Let me interject at the outset that we are all striving to here hear the Lord say " Well Done, thy good and faithful servant"

In order to hear the words well done-We have to do it well!

Well-done is a task or undertaking carried out successfully or satisfactorily.

It also means to be thorough-or to be done completely!

( If like your STEAK to be cooked all the way through you will ask for the steak to be cooked Well-Done )

That means that the cook will have to make sure it is cooked all the way through!

If it comes to your table even the slightest bit pink inside-you can send it back and request a new steak!

It is my humble opinion that when God is looking for a servitude that He is wanting it to be WELL –DONE!

To be done all the way through, leaving nothing undone or left out!

Joshua 11:15?
'As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses.'

Jesus is  looking for a diligent / Conscientious Spirit!

In other words- someone who was making sure that NOTHING WAS UNDONE in their life!

A diligent Spirit is a person who will not settle for something HALF DONE!

Hosea 7:8 says of Ephraim 'Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.'

The people of Israel mingled with godless people and nations, making themselves as worthless as a half-baked cake!

Cooked on one side and doughy on the other!

When it comes to our service to the Lord we can not do it half way!

Half done-or-half way is WORTHLESS to God!

He called it a cake not turned!

When we MIX with worldliness-we are a cake not turned!

Worldliness is a SPIRIT!-or attitude ( in other words we pick up the attitude of the world we live in)

One of the many complaints Jesus had with the Pharisees was the fact that they were not diligent about spiritual matters.

Luke 11:42?"Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone'

It is important to know that God does not overlook what we don't do by what is done or accomplished in our lives

This is what he was telling the Pharisees:

You make sure you give the tenth of everything that you own

But you fail to do the do the other things that are important to you spiritual life.

Jesus said to the man that said that he kept the Law of Moses from his youth up.

Jesus said 'But there is one thing that you still lack!'

The man was looking for a pat on the back for all of his accomplishments!

There is a danger of fulfilling spiritual practices with a worldly spirit!

First of all men justify their lives because they go to church and pray and sing and do spiritual things!

( We say of the church world-that many go to church only to sooth their conscience and then go right back to what they were before they came)

Israel worshipped Idols and they also worshipped Jehovah !

You cannot mix the world with spirituality-they do not mix!

Like oil and water- they are meant to be separated!

When we try to mix worldliness and spirituality-we can try to justify it-but it is still a cake not turned!

That is the second danger-God sees not a diligent servant

But rather a half-baked-half -hearted servant!

And the answer will more than likely be he will find you in sin!

II.  Well Will He Find you in Sin?

(2 Cor 12:20 KJV) For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:

(Num 32:23 KJV) But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

We can hide sin from family, from friends, and even try to hide it from ourselves but one day it will all come out in the eyes of the Lord. (1 Cor 4:5 KJV) Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

Read II Samuel 12:1

2 Samuel 12:1   And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto

him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.

2 Samuel 12:2   The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:

2 Samuel 12:3   But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.

2 Samuel 12:4   And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and

dressed it for the man that was come to him.

2 Samuel 12:5   And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man;

and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this

thing shall surely die:

2 Samuel 12:6   And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did

this thing, and because he had no pity.

- David had committed adultery, had the woman's husband killed and now taken her as wife. It looked like he had gotten away with it all. But there was a prophet in the Land that would not let him get away with it. God FOUND HIM OUT.

(2 Sam 12:7 KJV) And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

Ahab thought he had killed just Naboth and that Naboth's vineyard was his- until the Prophet Elijah came along and God FOUND HIM

(1 Ki 21:20 KJV) And Ahab said to Elijah, hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee; because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.

III. Jesus knows what is in your heart

John 2: 23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,

25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

IV. Will He Find You Sleeping?

Over 1,845 references to Christ's Return in the Old Testament

1 out of 30 verses in the New Testament
refer to His Return

For every prophecy concerning His Birth
There are - 8 - concerning His Return

II.  A Diligent Spirit-leaves NO ROOM for anything less!

When a person has a diligent spirit-it completely fills their life to the place that there isn't any room for:

Complacency - Contented to a fault; self-satisfied and unconcerned

Apathy-an absence of emotion or enthusiasm, Lack of interest or

Slothfulness- disinclined to work - lazy

Worldliness - concern with worldly affairs to the neglect of spiritual

III. People who are diligent are constant in their effort to accomplish something; They are attentive and persistent in whatever they do.

Exodus 15:26?
And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

We are to be diligent in hearing the voice of God

We are to be diligent in doing what is right in God's sight

A diligent spirit will preserve you

Deuteronomy 4:9?
Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;

We are to diligently take special attention to our self!

We are to diligently keep our soul-or to guard your life with great diligence.

There is a danger of forgetting-if you are not diligent about spiritual matters.

Danger of them departing from our heart.

We must be diligent about passing the things we have seen to the next generation!

Diligent people see the need to KEEP THE FAITH ALIVE!

Deuteronomy 6:7?
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

IV. A lack of diligence will cause us to forfeit that which we have received!

Titus 2:13-14 - AS A THIEF IN THE NIGHT!!!

Titus 2:13-14
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Mark 13:33-37
33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

2 Tim. 3:1-3

2 Tim 3:1-5
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

1Thes 5:1-12
1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

(Mark 13:35-36 KJV) Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

A. Or Unprepared?

(2 Cor 9:3-4 KJV) Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye may be ready: Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting.

A spirit of diligence can cause us to find what we have lost

Luke 15:8
Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

God rewards our diligence-if we seek him first! Seeking the kingdom of God is never half-hearted ,it is to be with great diligence.

Hebrews 12:15
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

We are to diligent watch for one another-to see that no one falls back from and fails to secure God's grace

Also, ( to make sure) there is no root of bitterness in our heart !

The Coming of the Lord for you- whether by the grave or by the rapture- will probably find you like you are right now.

We are to diligently be making preparation for the coming of the Lord

2 Peter 3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
