Text: Jer 6:16  (King James Version)

"Father, I am your servant, willing and desiring to be used to bless your people."

ill--The preacher asked one night, "How many want to go to heaven?" Everybody put up his hand except one little boy. The preacher looked down at him and said, "Son Don't you want to go to heaven?" The boy answered, "Sure, I want to go to heaven Preacher, but I thought you was gettin' up a load for tonight

Jer 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

It is to a nation who has lost it's way that these words come from the mouth of God.

Jer 6:13-14 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
14 They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. The Jesus Warned in

Matthew 7:13   Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Matthew 7:14   Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Matthew 7:15   Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

The exhortation in Jeremiah is given to redirect Gods people, To awaken them to their personal responsibility to stand, to see, to ask for and to walk in the old paths = the good way.

Many of Israel's prophets and even the priests had lost their fear of God and their love for God, they had become greedy and materialistic. They were performing their services out of covetousness.
They were prophesying falsely and deceitfully, They were saying what the people wanted to hear and not what God had said, In doing this it had produced a spiritual cancer that was destroying Gods people, they were covering their owb sins with religious activities.

This word from God from a true prophet (Jeremiah) told the people that they were responsible to know the truth for themselves and not to be deceived by these false priests, and false prophets.

It is very easy to get caught up in a gospel that is a gospel of convenience and comfort, a gospel without a cross, A gospel that  only demands a saving Jesus without a Lord Jesus, A gospel that permits you to think, say, or do anything you want. A gospel that denys the grace of God, and exalts self to a status of Godhood, so that anything self chooses is considered right and acceptable. A Gospel that leaves the people without fear and reverence of a Holy and Just God!

One of the tenets of liberalism is that we don't need to be afraid of God. They characterize God as a sweet, indulgent old man whom you can treat most any way. Liberalism teaches the universal fatherhood of God and the universal brotherhood of man, which is one of the most damnable doctrines abroad today. Do you know that the Word of God says: "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God" (Heb. 10:31)? Let us not preach a watered-down, sunshiny gospel. Our God is a holy God, a righteous God. It is this holy God who loves you. It is this holy God who wants to save you. But, if you don't come to God His way, you will have to come before Him in judgment. "Knowing therefore the terror [fear] of the Lord, we persuade men." There is many a pulpit from which is never preached a sermon on hell. There are few sermons on punishment, few sermons on judgment. As a result, God's judgment is almost a lost note today. We need to fear the judgment of God. We need to recognize that we are going to be held accountable to Him.

Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences [2Cor. 5:11].

I think the word terror could better be translated "fear." There is a great deal said in the Bible about the fear of the Lord. We are told that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (see Prov. 9:10).

Missionaries come and tell about the needs out yonder. May I say that there is a real need in this land of ours. The United States is one of the greatest mission fields today. People in our land are on the way to hell. You rub shoulders with them every day.

Pr 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Pr 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Any time the bible says something 2 times word for word this close together it is vitally important.
Paul said,
Ga 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Today as never before we must heed this admonition to stand in the ways and see = consider, compare, Do you see the cross? Do you see the blood? Do you see the son of God dying for your sins? Do you see him raising from the dead? Do you see him coming to live in his children through the person of the Holy Spirit?
Do you see the requirement to crucify the self life with its affections and lusts thereof?
Do you see Jesus Christ as the only door and way to God the father?
Do you see clearly the dividing line between sin and righteousness?

We must look for the familiar landmarks: Is there an altar? Is there repentance for sin? Is there baptism in the Holy Ghost with  evidence, is there salvation, healing, and deliverance? Are there signs and wonders and miracles? Is there spirit led and spirit filled worship?. What about the gifts of the spirit?
These are all familiar landmarks (sign posts that mark the old paths).
Is there a concern and burden for the lost, is there weeping and travail? Have we gotten off the path and not known it?  Has church became a status quo or is it a Dangerous place for the Sinner.

A bishop was invited to dinner. During the meal he was astonished to hear the younger daughter state that a person must be very brave to go to church these days. “Why do you say that?” asked the bishop.
“Because,” she answered, “I heard Dad tell Mom last Sunday that there was a big shot in the pulpit, the canon was in the vestry, the choir murdered the anthem, and the organist drowned everybody

We must never substitute Movement for progress, or Activity for power, or Gold for Glory.
I believe in progress, but all movement and all change is not progress, We must ask ourselves ( Do the changes bring us closer to the divine pattern of Gods word)?
1 chron 13: 7-12 David was led astray by the philistine spirit, He followed their example of putting the ark of Gods presence on a new cart.
He took the ark off of the shoulders of the priests, God ordained that the ark of his presence would be carried upon the shoulders of the priests, moving one step at a time directed by God.
It has always been so, * God has entrusted his presence and his power to the shoulders of men and women of prayer,
* Gods work in the earth is dependant upon the prayers and intercession of his people,
*The success of his work in the earth is dependant upon men and women waiting upon him for his guidance and direction.

The fact is it still takes prayer and fasting, it still takes sacrifice and self denial, it still takes travail, and it still takes waiting upon God in total dependence.
God interrupted David's party with a funeral.
When uzzah took hold of the ark God slew him,
1Ch 15:2 Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them hath the LORD chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto him for ever.
1Ch 15:13 For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.

Don't be deceived by the spirit of this age,
You can't go anywhere, think anything you want, say anything you want, watch anything you want, listen to anything you want and still be Holy, There is a price to pay.

Jeraboam became king in Israel, over all but one tribe which followed Rehoboam, But Jeroboam was afraid that the kingdom would turn to Rehoboam solomons son so he designed a plan, (it was in essence) a new way for Israel = Leaving the old paths
1Ki 12:28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
29 And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.
Bethel= House of God, Dan= Judge These actions were a complete pollution and corruption of the House of God, and rejection and rebellion against God as their Judge.
30 And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.
31 And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.

This became a new way that turned the people away from God: They accepted a religion of convenience, that required nothing from them but their attendance from time to time, Their worship was false, and was a direct rebellion against the command of God, to not make any graven image, or worship any other God.
Finally The priesthood was polluted, by taking those who were unfit, unqualified, and chosen by man and not God to perform the services.

I hear the Holy Spirit saying again this morning,
Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

We are seeing today a society that is out of control
America is no longer a Christian nation, Everyday we are hearing of how God is being rejected and removed from our schools, our Holidays,
Christmas is a time for parades, and celebrations, but Christ is left out,
Easter is a time for easter egg hunts, and rabbits, and dinners, and parties.
We are seeing the spirit of perversion and worldliness and corruption, not sneaking into our churches, not hiding in our pews, but filling our pulpits, And preaching their perverted self serving Gospel leading people into lust, and covetousness and greed.
Jeremiah spoke of a simular time in Israels history

Jer 5:31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love [to have it] so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
Another scripture clearly defines the spirit of this generation
Isa 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

We can look around and see and hear what's happening in the world and we can assess how bad it is and we can get depressed and go into hiding and cover our heads, and say it's hopeless, it's perverse, its corrupt, and wicked.
Or we can look in the word of God and see that our best days are ahead of us, (We can return to the old paths)

Malachi 3:7   Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.

2 Chronicles 7:14   If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

The devil may think he's winning and it may appear hi is winning, He's thought that before,
*When the children of Israel were trapped at the red sea entangled in the wilderness, the Egyptian army behind them.
But God turned the red sea into a highway:
Yes the devil is working hard, and yes we see the evil and the wickedness and the perversion,
But don't turn the switch of faith off
God is up to something big

Let the devil paint the darkest, saddest, most perverse and corrupt picture of hopelessness and despair, and sin that he has ever painted
And God will turn it into a back drop for the greatest display of his glory this world has ever seen. But we must begin our return and

Many have departed from the old paths, Many have despised the old paths, many have traded his presence for his presents. Many have chosen gold over glory, And the praise of men over the praise of God.

*There is not a vast crowd in the old paths, but the ones who have walked there are the ones I want to be associated with.
*The old paths may not be the easy way, but it is the good way, and it is in these old paths = the good way That our souls will experience the true rest (peace of God).

Church when this happens wholeheartedly hang on cause you aint seen nothing yet

Joe 2:23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first [month].

Hag 2:9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

Everything about God is progressive, he is always moving forward, he is always building, he is always outdoing himself.
We have seen him turn water into wine, feed multitudes, give sight to the blind, walk on water, cast out devils and raise the dead.
Surely we have seen him at his best, surely we have seen the greatest manifestation of his power and glory!
No He's bigger than that it is up to us to return unto HIM
