Text: Mark 16:15-20   (King James Version)

"Father, I am your servant, willing and desiring to be used to bless your people."

The Fields are white and the laborers are few!
C.H. Spurgeon said, "If God does not save a man by truth he certainly will not save them by lies, and if the old gospel is not competent to work a revival, then we will do without the revival;"

I read once about a very peculiar fisherman from Minnesota. This fisherman was very well prepared. He knew how to fish. He had everything you need to be a good fisherman. He had poles, nets, bait, and even a really nice boat, but this fisherman had a problem. You see, for all his preparation he never caught anything. Not one fish. Not one, not ever. And you know why he never caught a fish? What do you think? The answers easy: He never went fishing. He had all the knowledge and all the equipment, but he never got into the boat, he never left the dock.

Mark 16:15   And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mark 16:16   He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Mark 16:17   And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Mark 16:18   They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Mark 16:19   So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

Mark 16:20   And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Let's pray. Father,

Open my eyes so I can see Your truth.

Open my ears so I can hear Your voice.
Open my mind so I can understand Your Word.
And open my heart so I may receive all that You want me to receive. AMEN

C. H. Spurgeon, said, "In the deepest sense, it is indeed a work to convert a soul. If Niagara could suddenly be made to leap upward instead of forever dashing downward from its rocky height, it were not such a miracle as to change the perverse will and raging passions of men.

To wash the Ethiop white, or remove the leopard's spots, is proverbially a difficulty, yet these are but surface works; to renew the very core of manhood, and tear sin from its hold upon man's heart, this is not alone the finger of God, but the bearing of his holy arm.

1. Every major religion relies upon performance for salvation.

a. Hinduism preaches a fourfold path to salvation.
b. Buddhism leads its followers down an eightfold path to salvation.
c. The salvation offered by Islam rests upon Five Pillars.
d. In Catholicism, salvation is gained through fulfilling five sacraments.

2. The Gospel centers upon a Person for salvation.

a. Jesus announced, "I am the Way …no man cometh unto the Father but by Me." John 14:6

When he was the pastor of the Methodist church in Scarborough, William Sangster had an eccentric member who tried to be a zealous Christian. Unfortunately, the man was mentally deficient and usually did the wrong thing. While working as a barber the man lathered up a customer for a shave, came at him with the poised razor, and asked, "Are you prepared to meet your God?" The frightened man fled with the lather on his face!

b. Peter declared, "There is none other name…whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12

c. Paul said, "Through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins." Acts 13:38

The Gospel finds its source, content, and meaning in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Apart from Him, there is no salvation. Other messages tell men what they must DO to be saved; the Gospel tells men what has been DONE to save them.

a. There are many messages in the Bible, but only one of them qualifies as THE Gospel.

b. The facts of the Gospel are:
Christ died for our sins
He was buried
He rose again on the third day, having completed by himself all that was necessary to redeem mankind.

2. The Power of the Gospel.

a. The Gospel is the ONE MESSAGE that has the power to save a man from the penalty of his sins.

b. The power of the Gospel is subject to the following limitations:
It cannot save until it first has been believed
It cannot be believed until it is first heard
It cannot be heard until it is first preached

III. A Commissioned People – Mark 16:15

A. Every member involved

D.L. Moody and once spoke with a woman who didn't like his method of evangelism. "I don't really like mine all that much either. What's yours?" She replied that she didn't have one. Moody said, "Then I like mine better than yours."

1. Missions is imperative. "Go"

a. Multitudes are born and die whether or not anyone is prepared to reach them
b. If we do not evangelize our generation, this generation will not be evangelized at all.

2. Missions is inclusive. "Ye"
[Who be "ye"? Ye be be thee…ye be WE!]

a. No one is exempted from the responsibility to evangelize the lost.
b. Christ's command means that you are either sent or you send, but you cannot remain uninvolved and be obedient to Jesus Christ.
[you can pray, you can give, you can go]

Of all the gifts" in scripture, all of the talking about God's power in our lives, of all the references to the power of the Holy Spirit, one passage tells us why we are filled by the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8 says the "power" is for witnessing.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Why is it that we don't witness to others? Let me share some statistics with you. Why people don't witness: 1. 90% have failed in witnessing attempts in the past 2.The are biblically illiterate 3. They leave it to the professionals 4. We shouldn't impose our faith on others.

This message is not only about God's Heart for Missions, but also our heart and doing our part!

2. Go

So what is the first step in carrying out the Great Commission?

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

"Where ever you go" should be the understanding today. Our daily business takes us too many places and most of those places have people. There is where the "go" command is fulfilled. There is nothing magical about a move or a plane ride.

A young man enlisted, and was sent to his regiment. The first night he was in the barracks with about fifteen other young men, who passed the time playing cards and gambling. Before retiring, he fell on his knees and prayed, and they began to curse him and jeer at him and throw boots at him. So it went on the next night and the next, and finally the young man went and told the chaplain what had taken place, and asked what he should do.

"Well," said the chaplain, "you are not at home now, and the other men have just as much right to the barracks as you have. It makes them mad to hear you pray, and the Lord will hear you just as well if you say your prayers in bed and don't provoke them."

For weeks after the chaplain did not see the young man again, but one day he met him, and asked -- "By the way, did you take my advice?" "How did it work?"
"Well," said the young man, "I felt like a whipped hound and the third night I got out of bed, knelt down and prayed." "Well," asked the chaplain, "How did that work?"

The young soldier answered: "We have a prayer meeting there now every night, and three have been converted, and we are praying for the rest."

Oh, friends, I am so tired of weak Christianity. Let us be out and out for Christ; let us give no uncertain sound. If the world wants to call us fools, let them to it. It is only a little while; the crowning day is coming. Thank God for the privilege we have of confessing Christ. (In the midst of a generation screaming for answers, Christians are stuttering.

B. Every man evangelized
1. The domain of missions is "all the world." Starting in our own community!
2. The demand of missions is to preach to "every creature."

Daniel 12:2   And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Daniel 12:3   And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.

Daniel 12:4   But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Matthew 4:18   And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

Matthew 4:19   And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Matthew 4:20   And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

Jesus said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." "Lo, I am with you always".

T.H. Huxley, a well-known agnostic, was with a group of men at a weekend house party. On Sunday morning, while most of them were preparing to go to church, he approached a man known for his Christian character and said, "Suppose you stay at home and tell my why you are a Christian." The man, knowing he couldn't match wits with Huxley, hesitated.

But the agnostic said gently, "I don't want to argue with you. I just want you to tell me simply what this Christ means to you." The man did, and when he finished, there were tears in Huxley's eyes as he said, "I would give my right hand if only I could believe that!"
