Text: Joshua 6:26  (King James Version)

"Father, I am your servant, willing and desiring to be used to bless your people."

The Fields are white and the laborers are few!
2. C.H. Spurgeon said, "If God does not save a man by truth he certainly will not save them by lies, and if the old gospel is not competent to work a revival, then we will do without the revival;

Joshua 6:26   And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

The scene of the text was one of destruction, fire, ruin. But, for the children of Israel, it was a scene full of victory. God does not do anything halfway! God had done a mighty work that He promised He would do on behalf of His people. He said Israel would possess Canaan and would destroy all those who oppose His plan. So after they had crossed the Jordan river (on dry ground), the first thing they laid eyes on was the mighty city of Jericho.
For this new generation of Israelites, the site of Jericho's great size, not to mention its huge walls, was very disheartening. Even though God had told them the land was theirs, it was hard to fathom while starring at walls 50 ft. high/50 ft. thick. How many in here tonight has ever stumbled at the promises of God? But, once again, God would honor His word with faithfulness to move on their behalf.  I like that song that states he'll do-it again!  So we know and understand God is not a man that he should lie and if God spoke something it doesn't matter what you may believe or not believe he will make good on it. And before you know it, these great falls had fallen straight down, the people slaughtered, and the city burned with fire, as God destroyed this mighty city.
So in our text, As they sat outside the ruin, Joshua stopped to make a powerful statement in v. 26, "cursed be the man that rises up and builds this city Jericho."

He was so sincere about it, that he made them make an oath (adjured them) they would not do so. God would have it to remain in its ruins a standing monument of his wrath against the Canaanites, and of his mercy to his people when the time had come for their settlement in Canaan.

Joshua said if you do it, you will be under a great curse: his eldest son shall die when he begins the work, and, the finishing of his work shall be attended with the funeral of his youngest.

For one to understand the sincerity of this verse, you must realize some thing. GOD DESTROYED THAT CITY!! Man didn't do it, God did. And God said if you go against something I did, I will cause you to live under a curse.

There is Life and Death on the Word!

Deuteronomy 30:19   I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

God intended for it to stay that way, or else He never would have destroyed it.
***If you go against something God has done, you WILL live under a curse***.
1 Kings 16:34 In his days Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho; he laid its foundations with the loss of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates with the loss of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which He spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.

Malachi 1:4 Though Edom says, "We have been beaten down, but we will return and build up the ruins"; thus says the LORD of hosts, "They may build, but I will tear down; and men will call them the wicked territory, and the people toward whom the LORD is indignant forever."

**It is a dangerous thing to attempt the building up of that which God will have to be destroyed.** When God Saved us he destroyed some things in our lives that were contrary to our new nature. He tore down some strongholds that was holding us in captivity! He made us free from the curse through the blood of the Son. Why is it we are sometime lured or seduced back into the ways of carnality after God has destroyed the strongholds of it?
It is a very dangerous thing for the child of God to pick up old habits and lifestyles!

Proverbs 26:11   As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

You return unto your own condemnation by trampling the precious blood of Jesus under foot.   That is Dangerous

Hebrews 10:29   Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Matthew 12:43   When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

Matthew 12:44   Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

Matthew 12:45   Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

What did God do for us? Well, He tore down the walls of our lives. Ephesians 2:14 says, "he has broken down the middle wall of partition between us..". And He intends for it to stay that way.

Ephesians 2:1   And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins:

Yet for some reason, before you know it God finds us with picks, shovels, hammers, and nails. What are we doing? We are rebuilding our Jericho. The place God destroyed, we are trying to put them back together.

2 Corinthians 6:14   Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

2 Corinthians 6:15   And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

2 Corinthians 6:16   And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

2 Corinthians 6:17   Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
Why does God not us to rebuild Jericho?
(1)If you do, it will be a constant reminder of the past life. And not only will it remind you or the past, but as long as it is there, you will always have the temptation to go and habitate that place again. But, if it destroyed, you can't go live there anymore.
**Be Reminded!!! Micah 7:19 says he casts our sins into the depths of the sea, and David said in Psalms as far as the east is from the west... God destroyed the past. Don't go and rebuild that place again. It isn't worth it!!

Philippians 3:13   Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Philippians 3:14   I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

We are a New creation in Christ Jesus!

2 Corinthians 5:17   Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

(2)As long as the city remained in ruins, it would be a constant reminder that God is who He says He is.

Galatians 2:20   I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Matthew 16:24   Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Matthew 16:25   For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Matthew 16:26   For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

But, if the city is rebuilt, then people can easily look and say, I thought your God was really something, but I guess not..

Galatians 2:18   For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.

Galatians 2:19   For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

But, if we don't rebuild the Jerichos of our life, we will be living testimonies that God truly is all powerful, all knowing, all glorious, all favorable, all honored, and all truth!

**If you rebuild the walls, you defame God, the church, the Bible, and every other Christian who is walking in the light.**

(3)If you rebuild, you will hinder others who come along behind you to be hindered from making it to the promised land. As they are attempting to make it to their journey of spiritual freedom, you are standing in their way with your great walls and city.
To Whom you yield you members

Romans 6:16   Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

Romans 6:17   But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

Romans 6:11   Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:12   Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Romans 6:13   Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Romans 6:14   For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

**How many people have been kept from a great move of God because someone decided they want to be a fortified city that stood between the seeker and the sought after?**
DON'T BE A STUMBLING BLOCK; DON'T REBUILD JERICHO!!

CONCL.
Many folks are living under a curse right now, and don't even know it. There whole life is in turmoil, and can't seem to find some victory. The reason being, they are rebuilding their Jericho. God says, stop it now! If He wanted it rebuilt he would have rebuilt it himself
